Meeting at the Airport

Arriving in a new country where you may not know the customs or language can be extremely difficult. Birthright Citizenship Canada is committed to welcoming you to our country upon your arrival to ensure you are comfortable and have what you need for a successful delivery. We will meet you at the airport with transportation to take you to your health exam and onto your temporary new home.

What to Expect Upon Arrival

If you have never flown internationally, there are a few things to keep in mind, including:
What safety measures are in place? Safety measures at airports evolve depending on a variety of reasons including health concerns and potential threats. Be prepared to provide your proper documentation, comply with any inspections and to follow all safety rules such as wearing a mask.
What is a primary inspection kiosk? One of the first things you will be required to do at the airport is go through the primary inspection kiosk. At this electronic kiosk, you will

  • Have your fingerprints scanned
  • Have your photo taken
  • Have your travel document scanned
  • Answer declaration questions
  • Be given a receipt that you will need to show to a border services officer

When should I arrive at the airport to depart to Canada? It is recommended that you arrive 3 hours before your flight time to ensure you will have time to clear customs, check your baggage and account for any delays.
How long will it take to exit the airport?Once your plane has landed, it can take around 45 minutes to actually exit the airport. This is the time it will take to have passengers exit the plane, get their luggage and move through the airport.
Where will Birthright Citizenship Canada meet me at the airport? In most cases, your personal agent will meet you at the terminal  closest to your arrival gate. The specifics of where we will meet you will be discussed further on a case by case basis.
What happens after we leave the airport? When we welcome you to Canada, we will help you to get settled into your new accommodations. We will go over the resources available in the area including local attractions, restaurants and more. Your first day here may include a doctor visit to assure your health and the health of your child.
